Iraq War Veteran Honored With Homecoming
Marine Received Purple Heart, Medal Of Valor

POSTED: 6:12 pm EST March 3, 2006
MILFORD, Ohio -- In Milford, there's an honor so high it calls for a ladder truck and a police escort.

The city welcomed Sgt. Mark Reidel home from Iraq on Friday, and despite a turnout of about 200 people, it was all kept secret.

"I don't know what to say," Reidel said. "I saw all these people, and I was like, 'This is amazing.' I couldn't believe all these people showed up for me."

Reidel is returning from his second tour of duty with the Marines in Iraq, and he's been awarded the Purple Heart and Medal of Valor.

The mayor of his hometown also honored him with a proclamation.

"Having all these people take time out of their day to show support for me -- and I'm one guy out of thousands that go to Iraq -- it felt really good," he said.

Reidel doesn't know how long he'll be home, but he's almost certain he'll be going back to Iraq sometime. He just signed up for four more years in the Marines.
