View Full Version : 1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalion
I was talking with my recruiter when I enlisted about 3 weeks ago and he was talking about ship dates, While he was doing that he mentioned that certain dates where 1st Battalion, 2nd Battalion and 3rd Battalion. He also said that some people say 1st is the easy battalion, 2nd is medium and 3rd is the Hardcore battlaion. Is any of this true of is it just what some people say. I will be 2nd battalion so im not worried about it, I was just wondering.
Its all the smae. Don't worry :)

There will be slight differences between any company. When I went through boot camp in San Diego Kilo and Delta companies were known as the "hardcore" companies, simple because the powers that be gave a little different instuctions to the Drill Instructors. Regardless, every Marine graduated as a Marine, and that is all that matters.

Yeah, you'll receive basically the same training. I was 2nd RTBN also, Fox Co.
The rumor has it that 1st Bn are the smart ones. More focus on Knowledge and procedure.
2nd Bn are the Drillers.
and 3rd are the PT Studs.
That's at least how I've heard it. It all probably started in a bar somewhere, and took off ever since. I wouldn't pay it much mind.

When the Husband was DI at Parris Island, 2nd BN was considered hardcore.

Poolees,
When I went through at PI. We were known as the thumping third. I guess because of Third Battalion??? I don't know what anybody else went through at recruit training. All I know is attention to detail goes a very long way. We could lay out everything here for everybody. But it would be impossible to tell you what your experiences will be. You will grow and shrink both in body and mind. You do not want to be a recruit that sticks out in a bad way. For example, when you are being drilled on the grinder know your left foot from your right foot. It is very basic, you would be surprised how many recruits for get their appendages. And don't laugh when they scrwup. You will pay for it by pushing the drill instructor's earth for them.
LMAO, yes! Always step off with the left foot first! I just watched a Marine be promoted to Cpl., and he stepped off on his right foot for his own promotion ceremony! Needless to say, I was quick in pointing it out to him in private, tactfully so that he'd be sure to learn from his mistake. Remember...someone is ALWAYS watching...
