Minier Marine returns from Iraq

PEORIA - Six Marines, including one from Minier, returned home Wednesday from active duty.

They landed at the Greater Peoria Regional Airport.

All six, including Lance Cpl. Jared Litwiller of Minier, were deployed to the Anbar province in Iraq. They were part of a battalion from Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Litwiller was one of three Marines arriving early Wednesday evening.

As he walked through the double doors, his loved ones burst out cheering.

"It's pretty overwhelming," said Litwiller. "I wasn't expecting to see this many people. It's really cool to see everybody."

His mother, Denise Litwiller, said, "On the way here, we were talking that it was a lot easier coming here tonight than on Sunday Aug. 28 when we brought him. It was pretty hard."

His father, Doug Litwiller was happy and proud.

"I feel great," he said. "It's good to have him back," he said. "I'm really proud of what he's done. It's nice to know nobody's shootin' at him tonight."

Lance Cpl. Litwiller's sisters also have been waiting for this day since a video conference with him last December.

Family members said their prayers were answered, and they will rest easy, knowing he is home safe.
