DD214 & VA Codes

I'm trying to fill out my 26-1880 form for my VA Loan . There is a box that asks if you were discharded with a disability. My answer was yes but the next box askes for VA Claim file number. I was discharged with a 10% lump sum payment. On my DD214 it says "10 percent VA Code 5299", does anyone know if this is what they are looking for. I don't recieve a monthly check or anything like that!

Any help is greatly appriciated!!!

Va Claim File Number should be you SSN.. At least thats what it is for Education benefits and what not.. Either SSN or Service number which ever you had...

If you were rated at 10% by the Marine Corps when you were discharged and didn't go to a VA office and file for compensation you would not have a VA file #. You must go to the VA office in you county usually located in the courthouse of the county seat and put a claim in for disability to your states regional office to get a VA file #. When you were discharged you were given a lump sum payment was this (without asking totals and amounts) considered severance pay. If so before making any further claims for compensation (not housing loans) arrangements would have to be made to pay back that severance pay. VaMarine- My VA Claim number is not my SSN or Service #.

It will be the number the VA assigns. I put in the claim within a year after I was discharged and was issued a number. That number has stuck for better than 30 years.

That's all I have.
