Schweeeet vid and a nice find servehard, it looks like accord has some video competition lol. R. Lee Ermy was on the drill field when I was a recruit, no wonder he was the spitting image of my senior in FMJ.

Sucks ***...

Just turned to Discovery Channel and what do I see? A show about to go off about Marine recruits just out of boot camp going through tank training.

Welp, I've got one minute left to watch it. Yippe

Some folks better watch their mouths..
That is why we have a censor...Don't override it....;)

First time through the video I liked it. Second time through - something really bothered my about it. And I am not sure what. Any of you brother Marines have that reaction? View it twice first please.

I'm watching it right now and something is already bugging me.

The complete lack of narration. If I hadn't saw other videos and read so much about boot camp I would be completely lost.

I just finished watching it(The full DVD) and the thing that bothered me the most was the terrible sound editing. A lot of the time you can't even understand what's being said, like during the part where one of them is, I believe, being seperated.

And I agree, if i hadn't already done so much research I wouldn't have a clue what was going on. It was funny when the first Guide got fired though because he couldn't finish the monkey bars.

Actually even after knowing all that I already think I know, I'm STILL having problems understanding what the hell is going on. I can draw conclusions, but damn...narration would have been a huge plus!

They also should have labeled which phase the recruits were going through. From what I saw, they got off the bus, went to the barracks, got rifles, ate, showered, and...it's paused on their "gofaster" chapter now.

But editing is definately horrible. And narration is needed.

BTW, did your DVD come on a regular ole' DVD-R?

Mine came on what seemed to be a regular DVD-R with the label printed on, yeah.

And yes, having labels would have been nice. You can kind of follow along where they are just by knowing the phases, but still...

i think the sound is bad because no one is wearing mic's.

Yeah, that's true, but he could have used an equalizer to raise the volume on the voice frequencies and not had the music so loud, things like that.

There are a lot of parts where it's just shoddy editing on the part of the filmmaker.

And, I don't think DI's, or recruits for that matter, are known for their quiet voices and needing mics ;)

Funniest part thus far

Those little shorts are seriously lame as hell. Oh, and having to wear whitie tighties is gonna be crappy too. I'm a commando or boxer-briefs kinda guy. Haha!

Seriously though, this video is just makin' me wanna go even more. But if I have a crappy Guide like the first one it is gonna make me so freakin' mad. I better just bust ass and be the Guide so I don't have to put up with any crap!

I was just wondering about the guide. I think he's acting a bit too much like a D.I. Or maybe I just don't know what the hell is going on.

Well, I think that Guides are supposed to act kind of like DI's and get people motivated and stuff, but that guy was just such a jackass and he kept messing up his own stuff that it looked like it was hard for a lot of the guys to take him seriously.

The heavy in that platoon is tough though, the guy that was hitting the kid on the pugli stick course. He's downright brutal later when some kid fakes behind dehyrdated.

I have to write that I saw 'Ears, Open. Eyeballs, Click.' and I very much enjoyed the fact that it didn't have the cheesy narration. Instead of asking a recruit what the food tastes like or if they were scared, the film makers actually showed this visually. As for the audio, it almost seems unimportant, or should I write, it seemed to provide the same experience as sound effects and music. I recommend watching this movie wearing head phones if you really want the full experience. And I read that some had trouble with the editing of this film, but I believe that no other film captures through the editing the intensity of recruit training. Again, it is so refreshing to see someone take a new direction on a story that has been told many times. It could have been easy to make it like every other Marine Corps video that you can buy at any graduation and PX. But above all, I am most impressed that the film isn't spoon feed to the audience. It seems as if the audience is rewarded after multiple viewings because there is something new to be discovered each time. Unlike a typical Hollywood film, this one stays with you and you almost have to see it again just to see if it all turns out the same. For me, I prefer this movie over 'Full Meat Jacket' simply because this is the real version. No script, no actors, and no pretending to be something more than it is. I just wish that we could see all of the footage that didn't make it into the final film.

LOL - all DI's look like that! Just lock your body up tight and keep staring straight ahead no matter what is goes on around you.

I think the part that bothered me about the movie was the Beatles music in the background.
