How hard is it to become a marine sniper and how do you do it?

First need to go to boot camp to become a Marine...;)

Work on that first before thinking of a sniper..

nah, i agree with them. we need to focus on one thing at a time. its not like boot is a cake walk. thats kind of like saying "so what do i have to do to sign up for the NFL draft" when youre in high school

i know i have to ge through boot first but i was wondering how you acually become a sniper and if it is hard or not. I know that boot camp will be the hardest thing i will ever have to do.

No, the hardest thing you will ever have to do is live after your brothers die. If you become a Marine, you will know at least one brother who has gone to guard the gates of Heaven by the time you finish your time. And yes, becoming a sniper is hard. Use common sence before asking a question like that one kid.

Sheez - ease up fellows.

JUSA - when you get to boot camp, listen carefully to your DIs. They are the finest shooting instructors on the planet. Get a ridiculously high score on the rifle range, and they may come and get you!

But then what do I know. When I was in we were still using swords ....

Before you are even eligible to become a Marine sniper, you must be one of two eligible MOS, 03 infantry or 06 comm. Once in the fleet you must wait til the battalion sets an indoctrination date. Upon successful completion of the scout sniper indoc. you will be assigned to the SSP (scout sniper platoon). This does not mean you are a sniper yet. You must train with the platoon for a while before being considered for Marine sniper school. If your SNCOs agree that you have a good probabilty of passing sniper school, then you will be sent to Marine sniper school for one month. Upon graduating from sniper school you will finally pick up the MOS 8541 sniper.
Here is a link with a little information on becoming a sniper.

That was a great article you linked about Snipers. Thanks.

Tough requirements. I would not have had the patience needed to be a sniper.

No patience here either. That's why I'm a machinegunner lol. "Many shots, lots 'o kills!"

Ain't that the truth! I have read how some of these sniper guys will move only 5 feet in an hour. Hell, I'm way too hyper for that! Hey - all honor to the guys who can do it. Just ain't me!

my recruiter is a scout sniper and i dont think ive ever seen him sit still for more than 4 minutes at a time and he's not the most patient guy in the world... but he managed to do it...

LOL - the only thing I can say is "I just know me!" No way I could do it! I would spend my idle time torturing ants, or spitting my Skoal worm dirt on snails and watching them dissolve! (Cracking up) that's what I did on Guard Duty on Okinawa!

(There should be a "spitting" smiley face on this board!) :lick:
