Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers Connect with Family and Friends for Free

ENCINITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2006--FreedomVOICE Systems, a leading provider of 800 voicemail and virtual office services, announced that they are providing free long-distance calling to the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) as a way to thank marines, sailors, and soldiers for their service to our country.

Members of our nation's armed forces are often called upon to perform their duties on a moment's notice in the far corners of the world. As required by their position, they take risks overseas to ensure our freedom and protect our country. If injured, some of those military personnel return to San Diego's Naval Medical Hospital to be cared for while they mend.

The Armed Services YMCA is a non-profit organization which provides support services to military service members and their families, including those at the San Diego Naval Hospital. Away from home and family, these men and women are strangers in a new community which can be overwhelming. The ASYMCA is particularly focused on junior-enlisted men and women - the individuals who have been on the front lines.

"Many of the young men and women we serve are here, in San Diego, to recover from dangerous assignments in Iraq, so the free service is very welcome," said Cherri Barnswell, Senior Program Director of the Armed Services YMCA. She continued, "These service members are often stationed here for several months. Most have been through a lot, in very challenging environments. Anything we can do to make their stay in San Diego more comfortable and more enjoyable is most appreciated."

While, the program was initially launched just prior to the holidays, a soldiers' service to his country doesn't stop with the end of the holiday season. "These young men and women are often far away from home and the cost of staying in touch with family and friends can be expensive," said Eric Thomas, CEO of FreedomVOICE. "This is just one way we can say thank you for their service to our country and the many sacrifices they have made."

The ASYMCA staff and volunteers respond by providing strong program support to young military members and their families, to help them meet challenges and resolve crises. Service members will be given a toll-free number provided by FreedomVOICE that will allow them to connect with friends and family throughout the nation.
