State senator reflects on Iraq duty
WCAX 3

WAKEFIELD, N.H. Most elected officials who go to Iraq check in on the troops and leave after a few days. New Hampshire state Senator Joseph Kenney WAS one of the troops, and he was there for six months.

Kenney, of Union, is a lieutenant colonel in the Marines. He returned from a six-month tour of duty on Saturday.

Yesterday, he told constituents and veterans the American mission in Iraq is worthwhile.Kenney helped train the Iraqi Army in Bagdad as a military adviser to the Iraqi ground forces commander. He said steps must be taken to ensure Iraqis are prepared for the coalition forces to withdraw safely and successfully.Kenney also said he hopes the American public is patient, because he thinks it will take another few years before Iraq becomes functional without the coalition troops.
