Save those receipts. Marines can now be reimbursed for gloves, knee and elbow pads, shoulder armor and ceramic plates they purchased on their own dime.

The items are the latest additions to the Corps’ list of reimbursable equipment.

The original policy came out last October, at the urging of Congress. The policy allowed Marines to seek reimbursement for privately purchased items such as ballistic eye protection, body armor and front and back Small Arms Protective Inserts.

Reimbursement was limited specifically to the typically command-issued items listed in MarAdmin message 485/05. The new items are included in MarAdmin message 057/06, which was released Feb. 3.

As of Feb. 2, only four Marines had requested reimbursement for items purchased outside the military supply system, said Capt. Jay Delarosa, spokesman for Installations and Logistics.

He said so few Marines have asked for their money back because of the effectiveness of the Corps’ supply system and Consolidated Issuance Facilities, which outfit Marines with combat equipment.
