Barberton native killed in Iraq
By Jim Carney
Beacon Journal staff writer

A native of Barberton has been killed in Iraq.

Lance Cpl. David Parr, 22, was killed in a roadside bombing in Hit, Iraq, his mother, Diana Pasquinelli, said Tuesday.

Parr had moved to Benson, N.C., after his junior year at Barberton High School in 2000.

``He loved the Marines,'' his mother said.

She said she learned of her son's death Monday afternoon when Marines came to her home.

He joined the Marines in the fall of 2004, and had been in Iraq for about four months when he was killed, his mother said.

The Marine's father, David Larry Parr, and sister, Misty Curly, live in the Akron area, along with his grandparents, Gary and Patricia Meredith, and Audrey Parr, Pasquinelli said.

She said services for her son will be held in Ohio but dates and locations have not been determined.

Her son had told the family a week ago that he was scheduled to leave Iraq for an assignment in Africa and said ``he would be home soon.''

She said her son was proud to serve his country.

``We are strong Christians,'' she said. ``Born again. I believe it was his time. All the events through yesterday, God's hands were on him. He served his purpose here.''
