When I was still active, I believe about 1966.
I was traveling home on Grayhound.
We stop in St. Louis, MO.
There in the bus depot, I ran into a Marine that I had served with on Okinawa in 1958.
He had got discharged.
Now the part that's being bugging me.
He asked if I remember PFC so and so?
He also related that PFC so and so had been CID.
Now I know it might be nothing if you weren't getting in any trouble.
Now I wonder if these dudes were in more platoons or in other companies.
Some were squared away, while others might have appeared to be "shxt birds".
Now I wonder what was he after in our platoon.
This was during peace time, did they operate while we had our six in the deep shxt?
Sad that one Marine was checking on other Marines, but we all had a job to do.
This keeps flashing back from time to time.

I forgot to mention my reply;
"You got to be shxtting me!"
I was in shock!

We supposedly had a few like that. Ones that would "hint" about getting drugs or if we knew anyone who used 'em. Then there were the tails of guys who were supposedly E-3 to E-5 (so they could be in the barracks) that would drive around in an Aries K car and wear suits custom made. Got to the point that one would hear of these things so much ya start to believe it or, at least, believe in the possiblity of... We were always gaurded with new transfers that no one knew, especially those that seemed a little wise for their rank. For a while, I shared a room with a guy who was suspected of being one. Alot of us just stayed clear of him. Something just didn't seem right about him.

I just hung around with Marines that were worst than me, so I didn't have to worry.

I could nearly always spot the ones who were from NIS or CID. They were usually the Boy Scouts. You know. Some of those who didn't get drunk and always looked squared away no matter what. Plus they were the ones who were transferred in unexpectedly and then one day were just gone.....Usually they weren't PFC's at all. They were officers in disguise...and if you can't spot an officer no matter what he's wearing....

Of course there was that one gung ho butterbar.....

Sparrowhawk... I'm sure it also made you look like a great mentor and an oustanding Marine... Good call Jarhead! ;)

I was in the court reporting field in the Marines (4428)and they had put one in a platoon to spy out drug dealings. He was CID enlisted and they had him making buys and gaining the trust. Usually MPs that had gone to work for CID or NIS. They also had him go through the court martial and getting busted so that no one in the platoon suspected anything, and people would hear that he got busted. He would then be transferred....to another job to "work".

I used to love how NIS dressed in those polyester suits!!!! LIKE A SWORE THUMB....and they just knew they were fitting in.
