JACKSONVILLE - As world leaders focus their efforts on weapons inspections and the possibility of war with Iraq, roughly 1,000 reserve Marines and sailors at Camp Lejeune are headed back to civilian life.
Elements of the 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment and 25th Marine Regiment headquarters were called to active duty Dec. 17 and arrived at Camp Lejeune on Jan. 22.
The reservists were mobilized for "operational tempo relief" after the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment and 8th Marine Regimental staff were assigned antiterrorist duties with the newly formed 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade about a month after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
