We should each of us have a dream. If this dream is true, we should each of us follow it to it's conclusion. No matter the cost. A dream in truth is our heart's desire. What we cannot otherwise imagine ourselves being. A dream. It very often is more than a daydream. It is our avocation. Our life. A need that we must fill no matter what the cost. Sometimes, in the course of fate, we as individuals do not come off very well in life. It is our lot, for we have chosen our dream and followed it. If we can influence one person to greatness while doing what we need and desire to fulfill our dreams, we have achieved greatness ourselves. There are many such in the Marine Corps. Those who taught Edison, Puller, Henderson, Lee, Basilone, and a host of others whom we venerate. These Marines have achived greatness. Those who mentored them have therefore achieved greatness.

These dreams were not accomplished in the minds of these men, but in fact and in deed. Through study, training, attention to duty....to those sometimes intangible things that we must find inside ourselves at all times, in all places, and in all conditions. Honor. Integrity. Committment. Courage. Strength. We then find ourselves. Our purpose. Our reality. Then the world is changed....through a dream....as one small group of men so long ago had a dream of peace, prosperity, and freedom for all. Thus we came to be. The United States. And therefrom: The United States Marines.

Not through dreams alone was this accomplished, but through hard work, study and untold sacrifice.

Dreams. Make them become reality. Not through daydreams, or wishes or declaration, but in truth.

It is up to you.
