THE PHILIPPINES has been following up its request for the custody of the six US marines accused of raping a 22-year-old Filipina in Subic last November 1, All Saints' Day, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo said.
In a press conference Friday, Romulo told reporters that his office was awaiting a reply from the US embassy in Manila.

"We have officially communicated our desire to have custody of the suspects under the emergency provision [of the Visiting Forces Agreement]," said Romulo.

"We continue to wait for their reply although we're regularly following up on the request. Our people are periodically doing this, keeping in constant touch with the [American embassy officials]. But they say they're still waiting for the reply from Washington,"he said.

The Olongapo prosecutor's office is deliberating on whether alleged suspects Daniel Smith, Keith Silkwood, Corey Burris, Chad Carpentier, Albert Lara, and Dominic Duplantis should go to trial to issue a resolution on the matter on December 27.
