CHERRY POINT -- The commanding general of Marine Corps Bases East told Marines and guests at Friday's 227th Marine Corps birthday celebration that the real heroes of the nation are often the least known and celebrated.
"There are many names that come to mind when you think about famous Americans, but the real heroes are often times the nameless and faceless men and women of our country," Maj. Gen. Robert M. Flanagan said. "So many times they're men and women in the police forces and fire departments who, for years and years, have been in my view, the real heroes of the nation."
