Richard Grasso, Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, called Nov. 11 "the great Marine Corps rally on Wall Street." While many of the Exchange's guests - including guest of honor Gen. Peter Pace, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - were Marines, Monday's bell ringing was dedicated to Americans who served in all branches of the Armed Forces.

Representatives from each of the services were invited to the New York Stock Exchange for breakfast and to commemorate Veterans' Day with a moment of silence.

"We are privileged and able to do what we do because of what you do and what others like you in uniform do," Mr. Grasso told Gen. Pace and other military guests during the boardroom breakfast.

Pace started the day's trading by ringing the bell from the balcony over the trading floor. He said he was honored to represent not only today's military but veterans from throughout American history in the bell ringing ceremony.

"I'm deeply honored ... to be able to represent so many millions of veterans," Pace said. "To say thanks for making your sacrifices."

Marine Band, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga., provided the floor traders with a collection of patriotic songs prior to the opening bell. A bugler from the band also commemorated the moment of silence at 11 a.m. with a rendition of taps.
