Iwo Jima memorial gets facelift
(Washington-AP) November 28, 2005 - The Iwo Jima Memorial is getting renovated.

The National Park Service says the $3 million project is aimed at improving the plaza and lighting surrounding the statue, which depicts Marines raising a flag above the World War II battleground.

The bronze statue was dedicated in 1954. It's located in Arlington, Virginia and faces Washington, DC.

A Park Service spokesman describes the project as a general rehabilitation of the 78-foot-high memorial. He says the most noticeable changes are being made to the cracking sidewalks. Crews also will inspect the inside of the statue and correct any problems.

The restoration is expected to continue through April. The memorial remains open to visitors.

"Four of the Flag Raisers (Bradley, Hayes, Sousley & Strank) appear with their jubilant buddies. Strank, Sousley and many of these boys would soon be dead."

What if today's reporters had covered the Marines landing on
Iwo Jima, a small island in the far away Pacific Ocean,
in the same way they're covering the war in Iraq?

Here's how it might have looked:

I ain't pizzing on anyone's parade, but do the math.

This works to about 17,000 USD/Day to do this job.

Seems as though someone is getting a handout here.

BTW - the company doing the work is owned by a Hu or a Wu or a Win or a Wong.

Ed, It Is Hard To Put This In Words That Every One Will Understand, But That Was Very Nice, If That Don't Put A Tear In One's Eye, Nothing Will, Thank You For Showing It.
