Quantico Marines stir up thier own Thanksgiving

For Marines stationed at the Marine Corps Air Facility Quantico in Va., being on duty Thanksgiving Day makes it impossible to go home. So they’re making their own Thanksgiving tradition.

It's the most wonderful time of the year, but what happens to those people who can't be with family on Thanksgiving Day? Work obligations, time constraints and living far away

combined with the high price of gasoline and airline tickets are just some of the many reasons why many people won't be spending the holiday with loved ones.

"Last time I was home my mom bought a turkey and sent it back with me," said Cpl. Dennis Howe, 22. "We're going to cook that along with all the other Thanksgiving food and have our own dinner."

Each of the nearly 20 Marines in the section will be

responsible for providing one part of Thanksgiving dinner.

When it's all put together, the dinner among friends will

closely mimic the feeling of a family dinner.

"These are the brothers I never asked for," said Lance Cpl.

Jeff Barton, 21, of his fellow Marines. "I love them like

family now and since I can't go home, this will be the next

best thing."

Barton is responsible for the gravy, Howe brought the turkey and other members of the section will bring cranberry sauce, potatoes, green beans, even a pumpkin pie.

And the guys aren't relying on their wives or family members to cook the food.

"We're going to cook it all here, by ourselves," said Howe.

"Last year it turned out really well. We're all just thankful to be together and safe."
