Agent Orange exposure in Korea
Date: Tue, 22 Nov 2005

Hello my friend,

The VA has recently acknowledged that Agent Orange had been used in Korea
but only from April 1968 to July 1969 but only in the area by the DMZ. The
VA has unit rosters of who served in these units during that time frame.
Exposure to Agent Orange is NOT a claim. but some medical conditions such as
diabetes mellitus type II, prostate cancer, Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma, etc.
consistent with Agent Orange presumptives are a strong claim.

The presumptive conditions for Agent Orange are as follows:

* Chloracne or other acneform disease consistent with chloracne. (Must
occur within one year of exposure to Agent Orange).

* Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

* Diabetes Mellitus, Type II

* Hodgkin's disease.

* Multiple myeloma.

* Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

* Acute and subacute peripheral neuropathy. (For purposes of this
section, the term acute and subacute peripheral neuropathy means temporary
peripheral neuropathy that appears within weeks or months of exposure to an
herbicide agent and resolves within two years of the date of onset.)

* Porphyria cutanea tarda. (Must occur within one year of exposure to
Agent Orange).

* Prostate cancer.

* Respiratory cancers (cancer of the lung, bronchus, larynx, or
trachea).

* Soft-tissue sarcoma (other than osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma,
Kaposi's sarcoma, or mesothelioma).

Your service was in the 1970's, which unfortunaely doesn't qualify under
this timetable.

Please contact your VA doctor and describe your symptoms so that you can get
the proper treatment right away. You can locate and contact any of us
Service Reps by going to VVA.org and searching by state under veterans
benefits or by clicking here www.vva.org/ServiceReps/SVCREP.htm.

Take care and God bless.

Here is the Korea Agent Orange information plus the source link at the
bottom. The VA website has some info too but this was the most descriptive.

"The VA does have significant information regarding Agent Orange use in
Korea along the DMZ. DoD has confirmed that Agent Orange was used from April
1968 up through July 1969 along the DMZ. DoD defoliated the fields of fire
between the front line defensive positions and the south barrier fence. The
size of the treated area was a strip of lane 151 miles long and up to 350
yards wide from the fence to north of the "civilian control line." There is
no indication that herbicide was sprayed in the DMZ itself.

Unlike Viet Nam, exposure to Agent Orange is not presumed for veterans who
served in Korea. Claims for compensation for disabilities resulting from
Agent Orange exposure from veterans who served in Korea during this period
will be developed for evidence of exposure. If the veteran was exposed the
presumptive conditions found for Agent Orange exposure apply."
