Today my Marine Corps League Detachment is combing its installation of officers with the birthday party. We will have the missing man table. Some where I've seen a table for one set up with a sword and white cover on it. Can some one tell me about it ? What it is used for. Can it be incorporated into the missing man table, or is it a missing Marine table? Should I have it at our party or what ever. Thanks

Thanks gunnyg and wrbones. Things were going good until I got a phone call a minute ago and was informed that the person that was suppose to have all the stuff for the missing man table can't find it. On top of that the S.O.S. wasn't right, so we threw it out and starting all over. On Nov.1, I sent out 250 newsletters, now I'm finding out a lot of members did not get the newsletter. I love it when a plan comes together. Thanks again and Happy Birthday

JRtheStar, @ our post we have a chair with the POWMIA flag draped over it to rep. our missing, just an idea its simple but makes a statement. That chair is always like that and every time i look @ it, it makes me think of those lost :(

Yer entirely welcome, Marine. No problem.

That's the only thing I liked about that show...George Peppard saying " I love it when a plan comes together." Just after everything went to hell in a hand basket.

Improvise, adapt and overcome, brother. It ain't nuthin' but a thing.

You can adapt and improvise with a picture if you need to. The idea and the purpose behind the is much more important than what it looks like. Of course you want it to look the best it can. At our ball on Friday we didn't have a cover, so the placed a picture with a cover, gloves and sword. That would have been sufficient. I then stopped at the local RS on my way to the ball to see if they had a spare cover and they did. Anyhow here are a couple pics of our table Friday:

Table 1 (http://www.leatherneck.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=828&papass=&sort=1)

Table 2 (http://www.leatherneck.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=832&papass=&sort=1)

Hope that helps. Have a good time!

Good luck and Semper Fi,

Jerry

It's over and I'm back. Just wanted to say thankyou to all of you that responded to my plea of help. I went with just the POW/MIA on the back of the chair. Everything started going wrong last night. However, everything turned out superb. I couldn't ask for anything better. Many thanks go to my child bride Rebecca, who did all the cooking and decorating of the hall. Many members were there that have never been there. All were impressed, including myself. This is my second year as Commandant and I've been also Sr. and Jr. Vice Commandant. This is the best Installation of Officers that I've ever been to. I also thank my officers and members for making this a truly great event. What I really want to share with you is about the oldest Marine there tonight. It has been one of our most active members who will be 80 in Dec. that has been the oldest for quite some time. However last winter I recruited Ben and have not seen him since, until today. Ben suffered a stroke not too long ago and is not very mobile. I walked into the clubroom and there was Ben getting onto a bar stool from his wheel chair. I was thrilled to see him and told him every thing was taking place in the main hall. He said he wanted to sit at the bar. After he was informed that he was the oldest Marine present he slowly made his way into the hall and we made a spiecal place for him close to the cake. After the installation, the installing officer, Past Dept. Commandant Anthony Wade thanked our WWII veterans, Ben salauted, after the Past Comdt. thanked our Korean Veterans Ben saluted. After the Past Comdt. thanked our Vietnam Veterans Ben saluted. During the playing of our Marines Hymm Ben sung the words. Ben is 82 years old and a retired Master Sergeant. Ben has so many stars on his Bronze Star Medal it is hard to count them and the same way on his Purple Heart Medal. Ben is a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
Happy Birthday and Semper Fi
