They called it Bloody Tarawa, the "Gibraltar of the Pacific." This was the legendary World War II battle that cost the lives of nearly 6,000 combatants in a scant 76 hours. How could so much blood be shed over an island barely two miles long?

The Japanese Commander Keiji Shibasaki (search) bragged that it would take a million Americans a hundred years to take Tarawa (search), but U.S. troops proved him wrong.

In this exciting episode of "War Stories with Oliver North" on hear the stories of five Marines who survived the bloodshed on Tarawa on the 62nd anniversary of the battle. And find out how a famous Hollywood actor saved the lives of countless Marines.

The gruesome images of death from the tiny island stunned our nation and forever changed the way Americans looked at the realities of war.

From what I understand, the Tarawa Beachhead was captured entirely on film.
I wonder what ever happened to that film?
