Just want to go on record saying I hate when people, especially Marines, say 'former' Marines. Everytime I see this thread I want to change it, or not look at it, but it's so old I guess there is no point. You could say, not on active duty Marine, or Marines from xyz - era or units or years. Anything but former Marine(s). When I think of former Marines I think of the guy from the Texas tower, or the guy who just killed SEAL Chris Kyle. Those guys are former Marines. Not the rest of us. Carry on, Semper Fi

Hey wookie, I was told there are only 4 kinds of Marines.
1) Active duty
2)reserve
3) retired
4) Marine veterans.
That pretty much covers it.

I hit the yellow footprints at MCRD-SD on May 28, 1968, Platoon 2006. We were about 75% draftees and "dead a$$ed last" platoon. Other platoons in my series were 2005, 2007, and 2008. 2008 was the honor platoon. The Series high shooter, David Pendell, also was in 2008. We had the same MOS. So I got to know him. He was killed in RVN, about a month before I arrived in country.

My father in law, William P. Vaughan was a Lt Col. He lent his dress blues and sword to a theater group in Bradenton Florida, and never got it back. I'm not sure what happened exactly as he has since passed away. My Mother in law mentions it several times. I was wondering if there is a "lost and found" for USMC items. His initials were on the sword.

Thank you!

I was with 1/5 Jan to March 68, I don't recall him. Was he with us at Hue, when did he get in country?

Mike Doherty
07-19-15, 10:25 AM
I wouldn't know about Hue. All the information I have is from his online memorial. He was killed at Thua Thien and I think he got in country about 4 or 5 months before he died according to my dad. I never got to meet him so that's why I'm asking.
