In War, Appeasement is Surrender

In Washington D.C., and other cities throughout the USA there were crowds closely echoing the chants of the Vietnam War, shouting, “Make Levees, Not War.” In speeches, the leftist liars called President Bush who told us what was known then by the United States, the United Nations, and our intelligence community, “a liar,” trying to prove, I guess, that liars are believed.

The Cindy Sheehans, Martin Sheens, Cynthia McKinneys, et al. are doing all they can, either naively, stupidly, or greedily, to appease the Middle East by getting America to cut and run from a war. We hear them claim that Americans are killed every day in Iraq and should we not be ashamed?

They seem to think that by ending the war in the Middle East, we will save lives. As a combat veteran, myself, I can state that sometimes wars are needed to save lives. President Truman saved millions of lives by dropping the atomic bomb on Japan. And yet, the people who believe Cindy and her cohorts are the most naďve of all, because if they have their way, the terrorists, along with the communist-socialist fronts that are financing and promoting Sheehan, will be gleeful as they see hope for a victory over the USA.

If we lose this war, the Middle East countries will coalesce with Iran as a leader. Al Qaeda, seeing that its terror activities have been successful in weakening America’s resolve, will increase its attacks against the United States and other countries, using weapons given or sold to them by Iran. They may even get atomic weapons to use. With no troops or freedom in Iraq, there will probably be a civil war between the Sunnis and Shiites, with Iran stepping in to take control.

Without an oasis in Iraq to gain secret intelligence, we will be at the mercy of al Qaeda, having no knowledge of its future plans as we do now. After all, this is one of the main reasons we are in Iraq. We have built a large embassy there with one of the best listening posts available. It has been through this intelligence that we have been able to kill or capture a large percentage of al Qaeda leaders. The number 2 al Qaeda leader was killed today, in fact. Military experts now say that the insurgents coming from Syria and Iran into Iraq are no longer well trained soldiers but rather poorly trained 17 and 18 year-old recruits, easily defeated. No wonder the terrorists have enlisted the help of the communist-socialists fronts in America to assemble their movie stars and other celebrities, along with the unthinking peaceniks who will do anything to gain peace even if it means being enslaved or losing a war.

I wonder what would have happened if these Sheehan and celebrity types had been in power during World War II when thousands of American soldiers were being killed each day rather than just a few each day or week as now happens in Iraq.

Also remember, on 9/11/2001, three coordinated attacks on the USA killed 3,000 men, women, and children in just a few hours. And if the media really wanted to report the number of Americans killed daily, then they should also headline the number of Americans killed daily in cities like Detroit, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, not just those killed in Iraq. Murder is death, whether done against an American soldier by a suicide bomber overseas or against a civilian or policeman in this country by a criminal.

The word “treason,” which according to my dictionary means the “Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies,” needs to be revived and used, since many so-called Americans are “consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies.”

We all have a choice. When we are at war, we can all choose to join together under our president, regardless of his or her party affiliation, in order to win, preserve our nation and stay free--OR--we can surrender and allow the flag of another nation, or culture, to fly over our nation’s capitol, while we silently fold away “Old Glory,” with its red, white and blue colors, for another future generation which will follow the footsteps of our founding fathers and be brave enough to free its people and grant them independence once again.

Patrick Henry said, “Give me liberty or give me death.” He made his choice. What is yours?
