For nearly 55 years, members of the Marine Corps Reserve have provided a link between those with Christmas gifts to donate and children of families who are less fortunate.
In the most recognizable uniform in the world, reserve leathernecks in dress blues have led the Toys for Tots effort since 1948, passing new and unwrapped gifts to the hands of others.
Before taking command of Camp Lejeune in June 2001, Maj. Gen. David M. Mize was at the center of the effort of Marine Forces Reserve in New Orleans.
He stood there again Friday at Camp Lejeune as the Toys for Tots efforts began for this holiday season.
