As the destroyer Higgins moved slowly away from the pier yesterday morning, Amber Whynot fought back tears. Her husband, Robert, has been deployed before.
"But this time we don't know what's going to happen out there," she said. "He'll be gone Thanksgiving, Christmas, his 30th birthday. And this time, he leaves a 15-month-old baby. It's hard."
