Quantico to host Modern Day Marine Expo
MCB Quantico
Story by Sgt. LaToya T. Graddy

MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va (Sept. 1, 2005) -- Marine Corps Base Quantico and the Marine Corps League are sponsoring the 25th Annual Modern Day Marine Military Exposition at the Marine Corps Air Facility here Sept. 13 to 15.

The Capital Marines is the Marine Corps League’s host detachment for this free annual event for service members, civilians, and industry representatives. Quantico was chosen as the host site because the base is the "Crossroads of the Marine Corps" and home to Marine research and development, officer training, professional military education, and acquisition and procurement commands. The exposition will display new equipment, systems, services and technology.

During the three-day event, vendors will display equipment and technology intended to meet the needs of the 21st century battlefield and targeted to the Marine Corps market.

At the parade, the Capital Marines will recognize enlisted Marines for outstanding contributions to the Corps by awarding several awards, including "Marine Recruiter of the Year," "Drill Instructor of the Year" and "Career Planner of the Year," according to Marine Administration Message 200/05.

The event will also feature the Enlisted Awards Parade, which is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Sept. 14. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will take place at The Clubs At Quantico.

Performers will include the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon and the Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps.

On Sept. 15, which is designated as "Family Day," children under the age of 16 are welcome to attend the event if accompanied by a parent.

No weapons will be allowed aboard the air facility, and no foot traffic will be allowed through the air facility gate, said Brenda Dunlap, base operations command event coordinator.

"Base employees should expect traffic delays, and because of heightened security, interested individuals must have a picture identification card and be prepared for vehicle searches," she said.

The uniform for service members will be either the uniform of the day or appropriate civilian attire.
