Hello Poolees, Marines and others...I am adding this quick thread to find out what everyone does at pool functions or what they wish they could do and stuff fo that nature. Our recruiting station is so large that we have a Guide and Squadleaders to try and help things run a bit smoother and I was just named Guide once again so now I am trying to think of *new* ideas of things to do that may help the poolees get in better shape and re-motivate the ones who are apprehencious about leaving...Any ideas at all would be extremely helpful. Thank you inadvance...

As far as motivating the ones that need it I would recommend if you can, getting a hold of some videos like Marine: earning the title or even maybe a silent drill team video. I know even though I was motivated before I shipped out those kind of videos still gave me that much more motivation to become a Marine.
I dont know if theres a military base in your area, but last week we went to F.E. Warren Airforce base and checked out some guns and one of the recruiters gave a little class on them. We didnt get to fire any but we got handle them, he told us about talking guns and even showed us some basic squad tactics. Now if that aint motivation I dont know what is, hell all of us were considering changing to infantry after that.

How about a drive to send care packages to the Marines over there?
i signed in portland, or. while i was on vacation there. I have since moved back home to wisconsin! In oregon they had awesome pool functions! The one we had right before I left was an Assault on the Deschutes River. We went whitewater rafting, and it was each recruiting station against eachother. We had water canons and paddles, obviously. The goal was to attack other rafts and take their canons and paddles and to keep others off. It was alot of fun! They also worked on facing movements and they had pt 3 times a week! I didnt get to do a whole lot when I was there because of moving home, but I know the recruiting office in town here doesnt do anything like that at all. I wish they did! The fellow poolees in Oregon were super motivated and the ones back here and really laid back.

Have a Marine or two give a class on rolling sleeves on the cammie blouse. That's something required and you can really tell the squared away Marines by how tight and neat their rolled sleeves look.
Another idea would be classes on Corps Values given by Marines, stuff you'll hear over and over again in boot and throughout your career as a Marine, but valuable knowledge to hold.
PT is always good, obviously. I'd suggest classes on how to shoot/"snap-in" but I believe we're not allowed to train civilians (even poolees) in those areas as my SNCOIC is a Sniper and former Scout/Sniper School Instructor and says we can't do it.
Have Marines impart stories of past accomplishments in the Corps to the poolees, tell them how things work and try to teach them the proper methods of behavior/discipline around officer/snco/nco/enlisted ranks.
Every pool function we have I try my best to instill in the poolees the pride of being a future Marine, they may not know the true feeling yet, but if they can feel damn proud to be even a poolee then they're well on their way to being a cocky arrogant son of a b**** Marine like the rest of us :)
