BAGHDAD, Iraq - Bombs like the titanic roadside blast that killed 14 Marines last week are becoming the biggest killers of U.S. troops in Iraq, surpassing bullets, rockets and mortars, as insurgents...

Now here is the statement of the year, and the next qualified 'Get Out of the Gene Pool" Award:
"The number of U.S. dead is essentially under the control of U.S. commanders: Send out more patrols and more troops will get killed."

Of course, if you go out to engage the enemy, there is the risk that people will be injured. If you stay inside a fort with a concrete reinforced Bunker roof, there is a greater possibility that no one will be hurt. The thing is, Why and what good would come of staying inside cover?

Reporters! You got to love them for their idiot remarks, and the Brookings Institute is next in line for the Crown of Idiocy!

The fact does remain, after twenty-nine months of multiple daily IEDs and human bombs the death toll finally equals the numbers KIA and all other forms of deaths including drownings, suicides, traffic accidents, Heart attacks, bug bites, in-house murders, and ordinance mistakes. Congratulations Brookings Institute, you finally got your crap together.

Of course, the fact that the enemy can no longer mount an offensive against American, or Iraqi Forces, or Coalition Forces does not bring to mind to you that the reason IEDs have replaced Insurgent Assaults is because there are not that many of them left, and this is their only option, this and ambushes of very small units. There are no great number of large convoy attacks, and there are no large scale attacks on Prison Compounds or Iraqi Training Facilities. This can only mean that the insurgency, while numbers in the tens of thousands to begin with have fallen to thousands. They do not have the manpower they once had! They are making all the noise and the propaganda they can with what they have left. The Secretary of Defense was Correct, "The insurgency is losing", and Secretary Rice is correct also, "The insurgency is doomed!"

This is not to say that the insurgency will just dry-up and go away! Hell no! This only means that the insurgency will be fueled by the fanatics. the small 10 to 50 man commands like we had the "Weather Underground" and the "Symbanese Liberation Army" in this country so many years ago, organizations that are more bandit than they are military threat.

The days of the insurgency are numbered, and the days of banditry are something that have been in this area of the world for the last 2000 years; 'Ali Baba and the 40 thieves' of 'A Thousand and One Arabian Nights' fame is a collection of stories with some foothold in the facts and history of the times in this desolate area. This is the same sandy reaches where Caravans had to have royal soldiers guard them, much like our convoys are now guarded by soldiers.

Nothing is new under the sun of the Middle East, and all History repeats itself, given a chance!
