This is to all our Native American Marine brothers:
You might have heard or read about the NCAA proclaiming that teams with nicknames offensive to various groups--Native Americans mostly--won't be allowed to play in post-season tournaments.
We've heard how the NCAA feels about it. A lot of college presidents are trying to fight it.
I--as a retired sportswriter--am interested in how you guys feel about it. My inclination is to honor your feelings on the subject even if it means my Atlanta Braves will have to go back to being Beaneaters or inventing a new nickname.
I'm a little concerned about one nickname, though--Warriors. Sure, all the Native American tribes had warriors, but I consider myself and all my Marine brothers Warriors, too.
Let me know how you feel and I'll pass it on to my former sports dept.
