YORBA LINDA, Calif.(Oct 28, 2002) -- Marines, celebrities and over one hundred golfers and volunteers did not let a dreary and overcast day stop them from raising thousands of dollars to buy Christmas toys for needy children during the 15th Annual Kelsey Grammar Toys For Tots Celebrity Golf Tournament at the Yorba Linda Golf Club, Yorba Linda, Calif., Oct. 21.

This year's winners were the team of Rich Fossey, Bud Laughlin, Jim Francis, Jack J. Bud and Jamie Farr, from the television series "M*A*S*H". According to Jeff Wood, tournament organizer, the event raised enough money to purchase over 20,000 toys for needy children.

The celebrity golfers included Kelsey Grammar of the NBC sitcom "Frasier," morning radio host Jamie White of "Jamie and Danny" on Star 98.7, Neal McDonough from the HBO series "A Band of Brothers" and a host of comedians including Mike Wilson.

According to Toys For Tots Coordinator, Petty Officer 1st Class Keith D. Robinson, Golf Company, 2d Battalion, 23rd Marines, this year's tournament was a huge success. The Marines received approximately two hundred new, unwrapped toys throughout the day from golfers and members of the community who drove in when they heard the Marines were collecting toys.
Grammar said he is not surprised by the success the Marines and the tournament have had this year in gathering toys because many more Americans have found a deeper appreciation for the men and women of the armed forces since the September 11 attacks said Grammar. According to Grammar, raising money was not the only reason so many kind people came out to this year's tournament. Each year, this tournament creates new and fosters old friendships and fills everyone with the spirit of giving, he said.

According to Robinson, in 2001 the Marine Corps Forces Reserve and Toys For Tots collected more than 15 million toys for needy children nationwide.
