On July 1, Lance Cpl. Russell Stratmann, who is stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, was working at his part-time job delivering pizzas when he saw Roderick Bailey waving his arms in the middle of Jennings Road in Burton.
Stratmann stopped his car and, when Bailey asked for a ride, drove the stranger to Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
Stratmann didn't realize at the time that Bailey had been shot in the head and the assailant possibly was still in the area.
"As I passed him I saw with the brake lights that he had blood on his shirt, so I stopped," Stratmann said.
