Officials remain cautious about disclosing specifics, but E. Africa is destination
JACKSONVILLE -- Military officials Wednesday confirmed that part of the 2nd Marine Division would deploy to eastern Africa soon, but when and how many Marines would be deployed are unknown.
Marine Corps and Central Command officials were cautious Wednesday concerning a headquarters force from Camp Lejeune's 2nd Marine Division that is preparing to deploy.
"We can confirm that the 2nd Marine Division has received a deployment order to provide a headquarters element for Combined Joint Task Force, Horn of Africa," said Maj. Steve Cox, deputy director of public affairs at Camp Lejeune. "A deployment order by definition is for execution."
