A story:

I am 25 years old, and my wonderful husband is 12 years my senior. He proudly served as a Marine, and still wears his dog tags to this day every day. I have a friend in every branch and worry of them deaply, but the Marine life.... I've always loved a Marine man. The uniform, the pride, the honesty, the truth. I myself never paid attention in History class. I couldn't stand it. When I met my huband 3 years ago, the way he carried himself, others thought he was an uptight jerk. I thought he was a Marine. I was right. He taught me a lot of history. Before then, I knew that in all the wars our soldiers faught bravely for our freedom, but never knew why they were asked to go. Why the war was necessary. I just knew that they were fighting for our freedom. I still don't know all there is to know, but I now know of D-Day a lot more clearly. I bought my husband Band Of Brothers and we watched it together. He took the time to answer all of my stupid questions, and help me to know the fact from ficton if any in the movie.

...hang in there I'm getting to the topic of this thread...

My husband and I married a year ago last March. In being with him I have a lot more respect for our soldiers. I also new of Veteran's Day before I met him. But I thought it was only to honor those who served in Vietnam. Last year I thought so what if my husband didn't serve in Vietnam? He still deserves acknowlegement. Now I know that is not ture.

So, last year I got him a card. A simple blue card with gold trim that simple stated "Thank You"

Inside I wrote this:
In 1986 you joined the United States Marine Corp. For 4 years you lived your life willing to move from base to base & Country to Country. I'm sure spending each day wondering if today would be the day war was declared & if tomorrow would be the day you would die. You weren't scared, you knew why you were there & believed with all your heart it was right. You were willing to die to keep your family, friends & enemies safe. Willing to die for me, a stranger you may never meet & for a future child you weren't even sure you would help create.
You kept me free & safe & you helped me create that future child. for this, with all of my heart... I thank you.

Happy Veterans Day.

I want to keep this as a tradition. I want to get him something just a nice this year. Are there any ideas?
