No offense, but your boyfriend knowingly let you join the Marines? I was once dating this girl who wanted to join the military. I told her she had to choose between me or joining the service. That was the end of us.

Yes, KING. He let me join the Corps. Ive wanted to do it just as long as he has, even longer. He just beat me to the punch. The difference between your ex n you and my Marine and I are that we are going to stay together, and I will never make him chose, nor will he make me. We are in this life together now, even though were a million miles away from eachother, and probably will be for a long time. He has had my support since before he signed and now its his turn to give me his support in my joining. He knows this, both of us do. And whats motivating is the amount of people that think we wont make it!! I am not taking offense in your comments, everyone is entitled to their opinions, its my choice to take them into consideration. Just today My Marine called me( Hes in Japan right now at Foster) and said hes going to be stateside with another Marine for some new vehicle training in Texas! That means that I wont have to worry about seeing him before I ship! Im going to fly to Texas as soon as he is there!

Well the best of luck to you. Especially when you are on seperate coasts, and you're on a base surrounded by marines with noting but testosterone pumping through them. Plus, the fact that you are dating another marine means absolutely nothing to them (lesson learned). In fact, it will only make them try that much harder to try to take you home from the E-club. But I am sure that neither of you would EVER cheat on eachother.

Tegan
07-21-05, 02:34 AM
Thank you, all points taken. No, we wouldnt ever cheat on eachother, BUT I do know it happens, Marines especially. I know a few that are married and have cheated! But, we will make it through and I cant wait to hear the crap Im gonna get for getting mail from a LCPL ( my bro) a PFC( bf) and a SSGT ( my dad). Oh yea, by the way, I put my bro down as a reference and my bf is ****ed because I didnt put him down :( I used the reason that I didnt have his SSN! He still loves me. P.S. its a serious relationship. We want to get married, but not for a long time yet!

No negativity, I think it is great that she decided to sign up. I wish that there were more youths in america that decided to serve. I hope she walks across that parade deck with an EGA in her hand as much as anyone else on this site. I am just suprised that her boyfriend has no objections to her joining, especially after already being in the corps for a while.

Tegan,

Your brother being a Marine, that means that he is your senior, so he doesn't dishout any crap that he hasn't experienced. Good luck and welcome aboard the finest organization in the world.

After reading all of the above I'd just like to add my congratulations to you for your decision to become a Marine. At least you have a lot of encouraging from your family & your bf. As far as those "testosterone filled" young men you will undoubtedly meet, you'll be a Marine and will know how to handle yourself. When I enlisted I was one naive female back in 1952. After graduation from Parris Island and talking with the other women in my Platoon I learned a lot and later used it. Good luck with all your endeavors and come back to us when you get your EGA. OK! Im back and officially in the Marine 'reserve' being a poolee! Physical went excellent, thought I was going to pass out when I took the oath! YEA, it was ALOT of hurry up and wait, but the MEPS isnt as bad as most recruits think. I was 1 of 4 Marine recruits there today. AND the only female Marine recruit. I met a 42 year old that joined the Marines in 1978 and is now Army reserve. She had some stories and lots of advice to tell me! BUT, Im done with MEPS! Received my 'Welcome Aboard' packet... had blood taken... waddled like a duck... I am really excited! OH yea, by the way, my ship date is 20051205!

Drillinstructor.. i know you eat recruits for breakfast.. so you can hate us all you want:) DI, its not a bad thing! I know i'm heinous already. My brother sent me a moto pic of his nametape on his cammies! He said that when we are home together again well get confused if our cammies get in the laundry together. I also got a package from my boyfriend in Japan today! And when I opened it there was a huge USMC dress blues bear on top! awww.. What a week! I went to the recruiter early on this week and by today I was signed and had a ship date!

SSGUSMCDAD
07-22-05, 08:58 PM
Yeah, ok, sure. She "let me" join the board. Oh boy, some DI somewhere has their work cut out for them.
Only kidding, partly.

Seriously Board, I am very proud to already have a son as a Marine, but now my oldest daughter is on the way as well. I do feel lucky and blessed. So many people have said to me "Why didn't you try to talk her out of it?" To which I have replied "Yes, why exactly?"

It pains me to say this, being a long time soldier, but

The only reason I read these "poolie" threads is for drillinstructor's comments.

The more things change. The more they stay the same.

God bless all Drill Instructors. They have the toughest job in the Corps. Turning civilian slobs into Marines!

Never let a man stop you from doing what you want. The former love of my life tried to make me choose and now he's bounching around alone. The way I have decided to see it is, that if the Marine Corps intended for me to have a husband, then I would have been issued one in boot camp. Best statement I ever heard! My Corp is full of testerone but if you look ahead towards your goals, then you can easily push that crap aside. Welcome to this wonderful family. Good luck!
