That's correct, if you have full documentation of your stuff and your recruiter does the neccassary stuff, you'll receive the promotion out of boot camp, make sure you have a contract stating that though before you go or you'll get screwed. I know a few guys who were supposed to get a promotion out of bootcamp for stuff and didn't get it cause their recruiter screwed them. One guy in my platoon didn't even get his promotion, and he was prior service army. I also heard some branches allow you to wear the eagle scout ribbon or something on your uniform.

also 3 years of JROTC of any branch of service will give u PFC when u start boot and if u get 2 people to sign under your name you will get PFC at boot.
All I had to do was show my recruiter my Eagle Scout card, and that was enough. I think that the Eagle Scout ribbon on the uniform is either a myth, or it used to be true but no longer is. Would be interesting to look up...
P.S. I think I'll tell a redneck he can't spell or punctuate.

I trained a recruit in 1967 who in civilian life worked on a radar unit that was installed on Marble Mountian In Nam. When this guy graduated he was promoted to GYSGT. I guess it was easier to train this guy as a Basic Marine instead of training a Marine to run the Radar site.

Don't doubt what you say Old Marine, but man, the USMC radar school was right there at MCRD SD, in 1967. Part of C&E Bn. Why didn't they send the puke there?
Maybe he could have taught the dingbats over there a lesson, or two, or three. A big reason why C&E is now at the Stumps is because the radar pukes forgot to hook up the dummy antennas to their training units one night. It blanked the radar at Lindburg Field, and damned near cause a 727 to crash. Man, did that cause a little sh!t storm! Radar classes where shut down the next day, and that entire part of C&E was relocated to Twentynine Palms, before the month was out. The rest of the battalion followed about a year later.

jarhead1616, that is a outstanding accomplishment. That drive and determination is what will make you a good Marine.
Those merit badges do instill good skills that will serve you well as a Marine. Map reading, first aid, camping, pioneering, swimming...
Some of the best times of my teenage life were spent in the Boy Scouts.
