STOCKTON ---- The muffled sounds of explosives ripping open locked doors echoed outside a windowless concrete building, the target of a heavily armed force of Camp Pendleton Marines ordered to destroy a "mock" terrorist bomb-making factory at a former naval communications station in Stockton.
The nighttime exercise earlier this month serves as just one example of how local Marines have been practicing for the kind of urban warfare they could face if they're ordered to rejoin the U.S.-led war against terrorists ---- to fight Saddam Hussein's loyal forces in downtown Baghdad, for example.
