CAMP PENDLETON – Navy Secretary Gordon England said yesterday the new $355 billion defense budget will fix such chronic problems as aging equipment and housing.
England, in San Diego County as part of a West Coast tour, also said he was saddened by the killing this month of a Camp Pendleton Marine by terrorist gunmen in Kuwait.
"That caught us somewhat unawares," he said, adding that Marines training in Kuwait beefed up security measures afterward. "This is not a foolproof situation we are in. There are things we can do, but this is a very determined foe."
