Lance Cpl. George Simpson Jr. was awarded The Purple Heart, presented by Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James L. Jones, in a ceremony Saturday at the National Naval Medical Center. Simpson is currently an in-patient at the hospital while he receives treatment for a gun shot wound.
