I never heard of it either. Maybe it's a contraction for a "slovenly soldier."

Haven't you heard. While we were sleeping these past 40 years, us lowly Grunts have been elevated to "Marine Corps Royalty" I have been told. Who would have figured that coming about back in the day. Just saying.
