A very well written article, but one that doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Men and fathers have had a bad rap in this country (and in many others) for a very long time. This is in large part due to media portayals of fatherhood as a burden or as some monumental task thrust upon a dopey simpleton or an alcoholic abuser, take your pick. How many states have any kind of a law supporting a father's right to take part in deciding whether or not to have an abortion? How many states default custody to the father in the case of divorce? I think you'd be hard pressed to find one. Now, the perception of most women is that if they have a kid, they're gonna be the one that ends up doing all the child rearing. What the hell is going on? Whatever happened to parenting? There's a multitude of single fathers out there that are doing a helluva job raising kids, but you don't see movies about them and their vindictive spouses on the Lifetime Oxygen Women's Entertainment Super Estrogen Channel.

As a nation, we need to take a hard look at the state of parenting, and then ask ourselves how we clean this mess up.
