For nine days and nights beginning Nov. 12, 2004 Johnson's unit of Marines worked 24 hours a day searching the city, subduing resistance and uncovering weapon caches....Catching shuteye on rooftops in below freezing desert air or in beds of abandoned Iraqi homes, Johnson said the sleep deprivation was one of the greatest burdens he faced during his most harrowing time in the central Iraqi city.
