A Marine friend of mine who works at a local club as a personal security officer came in contact with a young man wearing Marine cammies and Captain bars. After the usual Semper Fi exchanges he noticed that the "Marine" was not wearing a regulation cover and upon closer inspection his uniform was not up to Marine standards as far as clean goes....so his Marine ID was asked for and he said he didn't have it with him so my friend started in on him and after a few harsh exchanges the young man left. It appears he was in the club trying to pick up some girls. QUESTION: What action can be taken against the poser? Any boy know the regs on this?

How come when ever you approach one of these posers they are alway's "top secret" and can't give yoy any info...friggin liars...that's what happevned with Frank Dux...you guys probably know about him...Jean Claude Van Dam palyed him in the movie "Blood Sport". In the book "Stolen Valor" the author B G Burkett exposed this guy as a fraud..Dux claimed to be some kind of super Marine when the author investigated Dux he found no such records. Of coarse Dux was involved in "top secret" missions. The whole movie is a lie. I can't stress enough how importan 'Stolen Valor' is. It is a must read, it exposes tons of posers from Vietnam and dispells most of the lies fed to us since then.

STAFF REPORT

B.G. Burkett, author of "Stolen Valor: How the Vietnam Generation Was Robbed of its Heroes and Its History," will visit Onslow and Carteret counties to answer questions, sign books and talk about what he calls, "the denigration of a generation of warriors who were among the finest America ever produced."

"Stolen Valor," the 1998 William E. Colby Award winner for "Outstanding Military Book," provides evidence that conventional wisdom about Vietnam Veterans is simply wrong.

Media portrayals of Vietnam Veterans, says Burkett, "have denigrated the service, patriotism, and gallantry of the best warriors America ever produced."

Burkett will visit the Marine Corps Association book store in the Camp Lejeune Exchange Annex Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sywanyks Scarlet and Gold Traditions, 222 Henderson Dr. in Jacksonville, at 6 that night. He'll spend Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Western Carteret Public Library and visit the Leon Mann Senior Center in Morehead City at 7 that night.

Burkett, a Texas businessman, was assigned by then Governor George W. Bush to head the Texas Vietnam War Memorial fund. He has been the object of an award-winning segment on ABC's "20/20," as well as articles in Texas Monthly and Reader's Digest. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee. Burkett served in Vietnam with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Vietnamese Honor Medal and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.

The sponsors of the visits include The Talk Station, Marine Corps Association, Carteret County Vietnam Veterans and Veterans Services.

For information, call 451-7500 regarding the Lejeune visit; 347-1106 for Sywanyks; (252) 393-6500 for the library; and Rip Collins at (252) 247-6065 or Hank Gotard at (252) 728-8440 for Morehead City.

It would be interesting to know if the Utilities he was in were 'woodland' or the new 'MARPAT' digitals.

I'm sure the woodlands can be found at most surplus stores, or even online, but the MARPAT's are still rare. There are copies out there, but they are not the same.

I have a set of the (coveted) MARPATs that hang in the closet, but that is ALL they do.
And 'irish pennant' free I might add !! :) :marine:

mrbsox....doubt that he will return to the club after he was confronted by 2 Marines on duty that night! The senior Marine was a former DI and did a tour in Nam. The junior Marine on duty did a tour in Iraq. Semper Fi
