Fallen comrade
A pair of boots, a rifle and a helmet form a silent tribute to Marine Lance Cpl. Antonio J. Sledd, as his fellow Marines read responses to the litany led by a chaplain at Camp Pendleton, Calif., on Oct. 11.
Sledd was killed by two gunmen during a training exercise on Faylaka Island, east of Kuwait City, Kuwait. Sledd, posthumously promoted to corporal, was the first Marine from Camp Pendleton to die in the year-old U.S.-led campaign against global terrorism.
