What do you think about a book that tells the stories of a dozen or more Marines from one small town in middle America? The book would be a compare/contrast type approach looking at how the Corps experience was for each generation from the early 1900's through present day recruit training...it would be a personal look through these individual Marines, not the usual history book approach of what the Marine Corps has done or been like.
Would you read something like this even though you had never heard of these Marines or their hometown?

Yes I would read this. I think you are on to something good. This is fresh, new idea. Have you ever read Stephen King's book "On Writing"? I think it would give you some good encouragement as well.

Get started!

SeaKnight-
Please check your local library system and go the Military section...look around the Vietnam era. If your library is extensive you may find relative material going all the way back to WWII. I believe that there may be a book or two that will be of interest to you that will deal with the sacrifices and service made by a particular county, city, town. You may find a book or two about the chronicalling (?) of a particular platoon as well.
Your public library may be a good reference starting point.
Go get 'em.

That would be an outstanding approach to the human experience as it relates to Marine Corps history! What a great book that could be!

Would I read it? I would be first in line to do so!

I would be very interested in that aspect. It is hard to find books that explain what the modern marine must go through.
