We have soldiers in here????
That song screams desperation from a struggling country artist trying to make a quick buck by invoking patriotism. Call me cynical but that's my take.
If you take the time to see how she came about recording it you will see that is not the situation at all. Country music artists have always been more patriotic. We have all these other artists turning the music awards into political speeches against Bush and the war/military. Whats wrong with some positive patriotic music? Personally it is much more refreshing to listen to a song that gives some thanks and appreciation to the military rather than listen to all these celebrities that are safe in there $20,000 gowns and diamonds pretending the American public wants to hear them scream about Bush and the war...

Hey everyone. i want to also know if you have heard the story behind the song. Chely Wright is also taking half of the Profit and Donating it to the Stars for Stripes. This is a non Profit Organization that takes Musicians and entertainers across to help the men and women over seas unwind for a little bit. The song is a true story. If you ever have the chance to get the Single of this song which I have you should listen to the letter she put with it. People may think that a country artist is trying to make a quik buck....then why are you only Targeting her song. I mean there is Toby Kieth, great artist by the way, and many other who have written Patriotic songs as such................
So why be so harsh.. And You know what If you can't support our country witha alittle Patriotism then i wish you not to talk to me or reply to my threads

I didn't know she was donating half her profits from the song to a worthy cause. That's pretty cool. When I'm wrong I admit it. Now as for you disparaging my patriotism for just one comment I made about a song, I think you should rethink that big time.

Poolee _Guide I think you need to back up and regroup! You have this all bass ackwards young man. YOU are replying on a MARINE board. YOU asked for replys from soldiers. There are NO soldiers here unless they went into the Army then into the Marines, and that makes them Marines. Or they got out of the Marines and went into the regular Army or the National Guard they are still Marines at heart.
Your thread in general is good, however don't come in here and question ones patriotism. These men have either fought hard for this country on foreign land and sometimes bled. Or trained and protected her shores so that you may be able to go to your school and one day join the finest military organization in the world.
Get used to harsh words, action and deeds. If you desire to go far in the United States Marine Corps,or for that matter even go.You are the one that is a guest of the board and requested answers. Lifes' answer don't alway's go the way you want!
I will give you credit for spunk, save that for the streets or when you have proven yourself in MY CORP'S- OUR CORP'S!

I am sorry eddief. I just get worked up when thinks like what you had said is said. I believe in supporting our troops no matter what. Please accept my apology. It was not meant in amy way bad. When you have a cousin in iraq for the third time you would understand how I feel.
I want to add that all I ment by Soldiers is the fact that those who have already Graduated from Basics. You will never hear me dis another branch. Yes sometimes I do get upset when someone blurts out about something they don't know about. Belivie me I know what harshness is

There is a really good article about her in this Months Leatherneck Mag.
It talks a little about her brother, GySgt Christopher Wright as well as the incident that prompted her to write her song.
It's a good worthwhile read. :bunny:

Hey Poolees and Marines
I would like to apologize for some of the things I have said in my thread. For One I didn't mean to Question anyones Patriotism. For two I did not mean to Offend the Marines in here. Once you really know me I am a gunho kinda gurl. i am top in my RSS at this moment and working my Ends off trying to keep what I have received. I have a Cousin in Iraq for the 3rd time. He is a LCpl in the LAV devision. I love my cousin very much and He is not harsh but Brutal to me cause I am a Female wanting to be a Marine. I understand some of the Marines getting mad at me for calling them soldiers. And I do Apologize for that cause Marines are the Best out there. That is one reason I Chose the Marine Corps. I want a challenge for once in my life. Something that is not easy and I have to work at.
Thank you for all your replies and for real Chely Wright has really mad me think with that song.
For every one out there Hoorah! and Semper Fi.

I like your enthusiasm and it is good to strive for the best.
I am in the habit of teaching young Marines. And also being taught by young Marines. As you are never to old to learn about the Marine Corps as it changes in small ways everyday.
I have trained with Army soldiers,at various military installations but, for the most part soldiers are untrainable to a Marines satisfaction. Marine Corps history tells that in earlier times we were called "soldiers of the sea." That is as far as I allow my Marine Corps mind to travel as far as the soldier statement goes.Although all the branches of the military work together in some way or fashion my blood is Marine Corps green and beside grunt green my favorite colors are scarlet &gold.
Apologies are accepted! But there would no need to apologize if you thought about what you wrote before hitting the keyboard.
PC I am not,but the next time I address someone in the Pool(ee) Hall,I will try to remember to use the statement Young Poolee.....nah..

LOL Phantom,
thank you for the lesson on the word "Soldier." I did not know all of that. I did know that were soldiers of the sea and some still call us that today. Believe me I am learning my facts from my "Welcome Aboard" book and anything else I can from USMC.mil
I have a question though...Do we have to know all the Ranks from every Branch for boot camp???
CrazyBrave83
03-16-05, 03:58 PM
It's good to...Army and Marines have a somewhat similar rank structure, but for Boot you want to first and foremost know the USMC structure, and dabble in the USNs a bit. They'll teach you those two (since the Marine Corps is a department of the Navy).
As for knowing them all, it's advisable, simply because (especially in times of combat) you'll most likely deal with the others on some levels.

I was gonna keep out of this discussion-and then i saw this. A poolee referring to their self as being a Marine-still call "us" that- You're not a Marine yet, so don't start referring to yourself as one-your a a poolee-not even a recruit yet.
Anyways good luck to your brother in Iraq and u in boot, and by the way I like the song.
PS-I may be wrong but i don't think there's usually an H in Oohrah, at least not in the beginning. You may have that confused w/ the army's and the seals "Hooyah"

Ok alanUSMCDEP03,
I am sorry for calling myself a Marine when the Title has not been earned. Inour RSS we call ourselves Marines to keep us Poolees Motivated and Keep thinking about Boot and How awsome it will be when the DI's call the Recruites Marines for the first time... You remeber what it was like to be a Poolee. You were always thinking about what Boot is going to be like?..Are you ready?...Are ging to make it? You know so keeping Motivated is my big deal and Keeping Poolees around me Motivated. That is Why they call me Guide in my RSS. Motivation and never wanting to quit.

Your recruiter(s) let you call yourselves Marines? That's pretty weird.
Nice motivation though, you'll do fine at boot.
P.S. A message board is not like IM, chat, or whatever. You can actually take some time to make sure you don't come off like a retard by reviewing your spelling and capitalization. In the US, K through 12 education is compulsory, so I know everybody here has at least a rudimentary grasp of the language.
Unless you're not from the US or Britain, then we can't help ya. ;)
