Iraq Suicide Bomber Kills at Least 110 , Associated Press (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=1&u=/ap/20050228/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_050228072017)
I keep seeing a pattern in these attacks on Iraqi police and guardsmen recruits. The insurgents attack when the volunteers are clustered up. Whether it be on an unescorted bus or in front of a recruiting station.
This last one was in front of a medical clinic adjoining a crowded market place. Dozens of recruits were standing in line to get their medical examinations.
There does not seem to be a shortage of Iraqi volunteers, ready to train and stand up for themselves again.
We need to take better defensive measures to protects these volunteers.
Haven't they heard of appointment books? "You 6 need to be here and 0900. Not a minute earlier or later."
Posting flyers all over the neighborhoods advertising where the next batch of recruits will be bunched up is pretty f*cking stupid.
It's been obvious for months that the insurgents are now targeting our would be replacements. They want to avoid a fight with well trained and well armed Americans.
The sooner the internal Iraqi troop numbers go up, the sooner we can bring home our National Guardsmen. Then deactivate the Reservists. Of course we are going to leave a large regular garrison to ensure regional stability. That will be for years to come.
We have a job to do. And we need to be there until it's done. But in the mean while we have to protect these Iraqi volunteers willing to stand up to these terrorists.
