Hey everyone,
I'm new here on leatherneck.com and I am joining OCS (or PLS) this summer, I am a freshman in college and I'm pretty nervous. I run everyday, about three miles and the such....
I just want to know what I am getting into. I want to become a Marine Officer more than anything, but I just want to know what it's like.. anyone can help me on this?

Well, first off welcome to the site.

As for the Marine Corps ... well, your not going to be in Disneyland that's for sure. Your embarking on a change in your life. Your going to face some bad times and some great times. You'll see things you never thought you would see and maybe things you never want to see again. You'll be pushed to a limit you didn't even think you had, and go further. You'll not only learn, but live by a code of honor.

If you make it through OCS and become one of the "even fewer" Marine Corps Officer, you will enter into a brotherhood of Marines. You will be given the privledge to lead some of the best fighting men and women in the world. YOU will be responsible for the well being of all those in your command whether in peace time or in combat, don't let them down! You will build bonds that are stronger than some marriages.

In short... your in for the time of your life if you work for it. Good luck.

Hey thanks a lot for the support... I can't wait to throw myself into it... but actually, what kind of stuff can I expect from OCS? What kinds of PT will I do? What kinds of classes will I take? What kind of schedule is there...? What can I expect?

Well, Why don't you take a first hand trip to the old OCS School in the states? Spend your cash. Take the trip. Visit the town nearby if you really want to know. Why hide in the dark? Take the initiative and the opportunity while you have the chance. You live Hawaii, right? Well, just transitioning to the states is going to give you what we call in the Corps "Culture Shock". I don't care how much you think you've prepared. I f you are in a daze by your new surroundings you might be wasting precious time by trying to get mentally and consciously adjusted to your new surroundings once you are in "school"

But if you can't afford the trip right now then I would suggest you build up you strength and stamina. Definately try to start running farther, and once you are fatigued try to work on your college studies. You are going to be put through the ringer not so much to fight, but to make decisions under stress and duress so that the Marines in your charge can fight effectively(sp?)

I too am aspiring to be a Marine Corps Officer, my life long dream is to be a Platoon Commander in the 5th Marines. The route I took was, going enlisted in the reserves, then, while in the Reserves, go to college, and join PLC. I was going to go to college right out of high school, but I just couldnt wait to be a Marine, and I do NOT regret my decision, OORAH Marines, and Semper Fi

Cole11 I believe that you will make one h@ll of a "Skipper" I always respected officers that had made the journey from the bottom up, we called them mustangs.

I agree, I'm attempting to go to OCS/PLC but my OSO (believe it or not) is giving me the run around. However, I think my blood pressure is what is going to keep me out. Although I still have yet to get an answer on that. Eitherway Cole motivate us and carry through. Are you in the MR? Are you already enrolled in school?

Hey PFC Cole...thats exactly what I'm trying to do right now. I just got into the University of Illinois and will be attending that school. After I get my degree (hopefully I'll be a Sgt by then) I'll go to OCS and I plan to be a career Marine Officer.

Wow I dream about the days when I will receive my butterbars !
