Back from the Sandbox Clues

Now that tigger is home, I can share with you several simple clues to knowing that a Marine has been in the sandbox for a while:

1. The first thing he asks for after he steps off the plane and hugs the folks at the airport is a beer. (You know those folks are Muslimes, right? No beer)

2. The first thing he does when he gets through the door is head for the shower. ( I'll be out in a minute, Mom...trust me. 20 minutes later....)

3. The dinner request is for pork chops. ( Hey, it's a Muslim country, Mom. I mean once in a while we got these nasty ham slices imported from Germany..but they're not the same)

4. He heads for the computer to show you the DVD put together by the unit at Fallujah - with a lot of stuff blwoing up and a lot of guys being walked away by Marines who hold weapons at their backs. (Watch this one, Mom. The engineers got bored and used 10 satchel charges on this house.......and the roof is now 40 feet above the ground)

5. He heads for the recliner and turns on the TV - beer in hand.( Wow, it's good to see some real shows again)

6. After dinner, he heads for his bed. ( I really missed a real bed - boy, this feels good)

And lastof all - I finally get - It's good to be home - I really missed this.

Without sounding as me,me, it brought memories of a Marine returning from a different time.
That Marine went to bed, and he must have slept for 24 hours.
That Marine's mother thought, he had died.
It was just making up for lack of sleep for 13 months.
It was a joy reading your point of view of how to tell when a Marine was in the "sandbox".

Please give your Marine a "Welcome Home" for me.

Some Vets returning from Vietnam had a sort of letter that could be sent home just before leaving that was a spoof (but very true).
I sent a copy to my Parents & Girlfriend.
Do any of you Marines remember this ?.
