Sent to me by a friend...

Upward Vets, Inc. thanks Mr. Otis Willie of Vietnam Scars and Stripes Yahoo group for bringing this sad news to our attention.

This is exactly the kind of "gap" between existing homeless Veteran aid programs that Upward Vets, Inc. seeks to eliminate via friendly cooperative forging of alliances, working relationships and new programs with those existing programs.

Why wasn't this Veteran in a transitional homeless Veteran's domiciliary until the very day he was guided into his new lodgings? Why was there a gap in the continuum of care that allowed this Veteran to be in an uncared for situation that brought on his death?

This is an abomination of everything we hold sacred under our Constitution, that while we expend billions of dollars a year to protect foreign nationals overseas, to rush to their aid after natural disasters, to expatriate them to this nation where they will be protected...

WE ALLOW THE VERY HEROES WHO BUILT OUR FREEDOM TO BECOME HOMELESS AND TO...

FREEZE TO DEATH!

We ask that all of you bring this situation to the attention of your Congressional persons.

And ask them... "Why are there ANY homeless Veterans?"

And, where is the funding and the domiciliary housing they promised to homeless Veterans six years ago?

The greatest position of honor of which I can conceive for Mr. Joe Young is that he and his story should now become the poster situation specifying the incredible lack of proper care for homeless Veterans from our VA over the last six years, alone. And that the need is great, very great.

Mr. Joe Young will hold a place of honor at Upward Vets, a plaque with his story and his picture (if possible) will be displayed in UVI facilities, that in the aftermath of his suffering, "none shall be left behind again!"

If anyone has a picture of Mr. Young, Upward Vets would appreciate a copy.

14wifie Evansville, IN January 19, 2005 New Media Producer: Kerry Corum "A Vietnam veteran who froze to death alone beneath a railroad bridge on Christmas Eve has been remembered in Covington, Kentucky.

Fifty-seven-year-old Joe Young died in single-digit cold a few blocks from a shelter where he had previously stayed and a few days before he was to move into an apartment that had been arranged for him."

Because we have people in big offices in Washington D.C. that couldnt give a rats behind what happens to our veterans anymore. The veterans have had to fight, and plead, for Them and after enough veterans raise enough hell then they get off there asses and decide to through a few shickles our way.
