Veteran Of Two Iraq Tours Killed In Car Crash
POSTED: 9:57 am EST January 14, 2005
MONTGOMERGY, N.Y. -- He survived two tours in Iraq only to die in a car crash two miles from his New York home.
Suresh Sinanan was buried Thursday with full military honors in Montgomery.
The 21-year-old Marine corporal died last week when the SUV he was driving went out of control on a snow-covered road and veered into the path of a tractor-trailer
He was serving his second tour in Iraq last fall when he received word that his stepfather was dying of a brain tumor. Sinanan was sent back to the United States, but arrived just six hours after his stepfather died.
With his enlistment scheduled to end in September, Sinanan was transferred to a Marine base in Southern California instead of being sent back to Iraq. His family says he persuaded his commanders to allow him to return home for the holidays and work for two weeks at the local Marine Corps recruiting office.
Sinanan was on his way to the enlistment office on Jan. 6 when the crash occurred.
